In my world, guests are less likely to just pop by uninvited these days, but so often I realize we have a free night and find myself wanting to extend an invite. If you’re like me, make sure you have some easy essentials on hand for these impromptu gatherings! Avoid the scramble, make hosting easy and you’re more likely to do it again and again.

  • Pretty Dining Table: this inexpensive option is so pretty, if you don’t already have a table. You’ll be able to dress it up or down for all types of occasions.
  • Lime Cocktail Napkins: if you can’t tell by now, I love a good cocktail napkin. They add color and fun, and are easy to have on hand. Keep a little stash in your pantry. $12 for 100!
  • Gold Votive Holders: another great staple. $18 for 12.
  • Chefs Knife: buying a second big knife was one of the best things I’ve ever done for hosting or cooking with my husband. No more fighting, constant washing, waiting around—let your guests help you finish that last minute chopping.
  • Bamboo Flatware: an everyday set that feels fancy.
  • Dragonfly Tumblers: great water cups or even use for wine!
  • Puzzle: I love having something easy to do on hand, like a puzzle. Also a good hostess gift.
  • Beverage Tub: pull this out to make your last minute event feel like a party and make your guests feel like you’ve put in some effort. Also a great centerpiece!
  • Old Fashioned Mix: keep on hand for easy cocktails.
  • Tablecloth: I just love this print.
